RHODA ZULU

Rhoda Zulu currently works as a Senior Radio Producer/Community mobilization Officer for rural development with the Story Workshop Education Trust (SWET), a local Non-Governmental Organization based in Blantyre, Malawi. Using Communication for Social Change models, her role involves mobilization and facilitation of communities to be active determinants and action oriented towards various themes of interventions.

Rhoda started as a primary school teacher in the mid eighties and after obtaining a diploma in Education she taught at secondary school. She later studied journalism while in service at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) as a Radio Producer and an Announcer. After working for a year she was trained in Development Journalism then seconded to the Development Broadcasting Unit of MBC where she facilitated various projects including human rights and improved livelihoods for sustainable development. In 2008 she quit the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation to join the Story Workshop.

She believes that one cannot climb the ladder of success with hands in your pocket and that learning is a lifetime experience. Rhoda enjoys reading and writing such that at her workplace she collects and compiles case studies and positive stories as well write features from the communities she visits on various projects. In addition she chairs the women desk of the Malawi Writers’ Union. Her role is to coordinate with other members particularly women writers and girls in the promotion of writing and reading. She has written and published several articles nationally and even across the boarders some of which are on gender based violence, development, religious, love and several others.
