Dr. Mwiru was born and grew up in a small village in Singida, Central Tanzania. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Dar es Salaam (Muhimbili) in Tanzania in 2001 and practiced clinical medicine for two years before joining the Harvard School of Public Health (USA) for the Masters of Science in Epidemiology program where he graduated in 2006. Dr. Mwiru worked as a Fogarty-Ellison research fellow in clinical and global health, and as a coordinator of Prevention of Maternal-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) program with the Tanzania-Harvard partnership (MUHAS-HARVARD collaborative research/MDH) between 2006 and 2008. His research interest is in nutrition and child health and has five years of experience in this area. Dr. Mwiru is received a Doctorate of Science in Nutritional Epidemiology at Harvard University in May 2013.
