58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women

Date:
Mon Mar 10, 2014 (All day) - Fri Mar 21, 2014 (All day)

Posted on this theme site because the status of women is so closely linked to the well-being of children: The forthcoming 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, to be held from March 10-21, will closely examine the gaps and the achievements made since 2000 under the priority theme of ‘Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the MDGs for women and girls’. The meeting will be a milestone in the ongoing post-2015 debate, opening opportunities to advance advocacy for the centrality of women’s empowerment and gender equality and a stand-alone Sustainable Development Goal in that context. On the eve of the session, International Women’s Day events will kick off the year-long mobilisation for the 20th anniversary and review of the landmark Beijing Platform for Action, to galvanise further momentum to shape the future development agenda, built on the foundation of inclusiveness and lessons learned.
