Norbert Wildermuth is associate professor in Social Media at the Department of Communication, Business and Information Technologies (CBIT) at Roskilde University (RU), Denmark. He has an MA in Media Studies from Technische Universität Berlin (1990) and Ph.D. studies at the Department for Film and Media Studies of Copenhagen University (1998‐2002). He has published on issues of media globalization, communication for social change and and e-citizenship, including his research project “A Cultural Economy of Satellite Television in India”. His fieldwork experience includes studies in Zambia, Vietnam and Brazil as part of the collaborative, interdisciplinary research project “Youth and the City: Skills, Knowledge and Social Reproduction” (2001‐2005). In recent years, his qualitative research focus on young people and their everyday media uses has developed into a core interest in questions of digital empowerment and e‐participation, including his research project “Youth engaging ICTs for development: a comparative study of participatory communication and new media in Nepal and Brazil” (2008). And presently, his participation as senior investigator in the collaborative research program “Media, Empowerment and Democracy in East Africa (MEDIeA)” headed by Prof. Thomas Tufte (2009-2013). Moreover, he is leading the collective research and capacity building project “e-governance in Bhutan (eGiB)” (2012-2015), as he is a member of the international research network Glocal NOMAD, a Danish-Brazilian research network and the ØRECOMM platform.
