Regional Focal Point (RFP) for the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA)

Amila Rajapaksha is an emerging young professional with an education background on Social Works and with a very strong experience in Human Rights, Education, Sexual and reproductive health including HIV and AIDS. He worked as the National Focal point for the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS as well as for Y peer where he gained extensive experience at national level working with marginalized youth Groups. He has an extensive and proven track record in event management and management of grass root organizations. His contribution in coordination and youth mobilizations and establishing communications between partners has been a highlight in his National and Global work. Amila developed a specialty in peer educator training programs as well as training of trainer programs (TOT) at a very early stage. He is commended by many of his past work associates for his excellent skills as a HIV trainer, and young advocate on access to quality health services. He is also known for his extensive experiences on working with male sex workers and other extremely marginalized communities in his constituency.

Amila has a strong record in supporting the participation of young women and boys, girls in UN governance. He played a key supportive role in UN architecture supporting the historic Youth 21 campaign to establish a permanent forum on Youth in the General Assembly. He also played an important role as a youth activists based in NYC in the United Nations My World Campaign and even represented Global Youth population in a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon. He is a born leader with excellent skills on managing team work and a positive track record for being creative and enthusiastic even in the face of biggest challenges. Amila has been a part of 8th and 9th ICAAP and was a per conference committee and main conference committee member of the International AIDS conference in 2012.

He also heavily contributed to the technical work of the National Delegation of Sri Lanka to 51st Commission on Social Development. His academic background is colored with his main researches on maritime sectors regarding HIV & AIDS and Standards of Youth Friendly Services for SRHR and HIV in Sri Lanka. Amila has always been colored for his work and delivering capacity with his problem solving and analytical skills.
